Studio Silver Today Rauni Higson at Erddig

19 December 2012

A Goldsmiths' Company exhibition in collaboration with the National Trust at Erddig House, near Wrexham, built in the early 18th century and considered to be one of Britain's finest historic houses.

Studio Silver Today is a pioneering Goldsmiths’ Company exhibition in collaboration with the National Trust to broaden awareness of today’s modern silver movement. The exhibition tells the story of the Company and focuses on the work of Snowdonia based silversmith Rauni Higson.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the Goldsmiths’ Company is working in collaboration with the National Trust in hosting the exhibition “Studio Silver Today” featuring a leading British silversmith and telling the story of the Goldsmiths’ Company and its on-going patronage of contemporary British silver.

Rosemary Ransome Wallis, Curator of the Collections at Goldsmiths’ Hall, said:  “Rauni was the obvious choice as artist-in-residence at Erddig for the “Studio Silver Today” exhibition.  Her out-going personality, her virtuoso craft skill as a silversmith and her unique creative vitality make her a fitting ambassador of the silversmiths’ art.  She is truly a star from Snowdonia.”

During her residency at Erddig Rauni will hand-raise a beaker, commissioned by the Goldsmiths' Company as a prize for a draw open to any of the visitors to Erddig while the exhibition is on.  Rauni's beaker is inspired by sweet peas, flowers which have long since been grown in the gardens at Erddig.

On specified Saturdays throughout the duration of the show Rauni will be present to talk to visitors about her work and demonstrate her skills at a workbench set up within the body of the exhibition.
