The Goldsmiths’ Company is home to the UK’s largest specialist library devoted to silver, jewellery and hallmarking, and to an institutional archive covering nearly 700 years of history. At present the Library and Archive team are engaged in putting our library and archive holdings online as part of a project to celebrate the Company’s 700th anniversary in 2027.

About the role:

The Company is seeking a Librarian who will act as cataloguing lead for the Library OPAC, managing the migration of existing records into MARC format, as well as cataloguing new material. They will also play a part in Library outreach, handling enquiries and other library duties.

This is a permanent, full-time role with a salary of £43,500 p.a., as well as a generous benefits package including, but not limited to, a Company Pension Contribution of up to 14%, Simplyhealth cash plan, retail discounts platform, and Cycle to Work scheme.

About you:  

The Librarian will hold a library qualification, CILIP chartership or equivalent experience. They will act as the system administrator of the Company’s LMS (Sirsi Eos.web), demonstrate a proficiency in cataloguing in MARC and RDA; have experience of writing abstracts; and be confident in subject analysis and application. They also need to be engaged with developments in the sector to ensure that Library data evolves with the changing needs of users and technology. 

The Librarian will collaborate with colleagues, work as part of a team, and interact with the public when required. Good administrative and communication skills are essential. An interest in jewellery, silversmithing and / or craft and design is desirable. As is a willingness to respond to the changing needs of the Goldsmiths’ Company’s library with imagination and enthusiasm.
