Goldsmiths’ Company Welcomes Ten New Apprentices

On Wednesday 16 October 2024 we welcomed ten aspiring craftspeople to Goldsmiths’ Hall, to begin their Goldsmiths’ Company Apprenticeships and sign the Apprentice Records at a Binding Ceremony.

This, almost 700-year-old tradition, marks the official start of their apprenticeship, during which they will learn and practice their skills under the guidance of a Master Craftsperson.

The 2024 Goldsmiths’ Company Apprentices are:

  • Lola Ayliffe - will be training as a Gem Setter at Robert Charles Jewellery

  • Harry Barnard - will be training as an Enameller at Munn Enamelling Ltd.

  • Louis Faine - will be training as a Diamond Mounter at Theo Fennell Ltd

Delivered by The Goldsmiths' Centre on behalf of The Goldsmiths' Company, the scheme provides training and development opportunities for apprentices and support for employers that is vital in establishing the next generation of jewellers and silversmiths.

In their final year, apprentices spend around 300 hours producing a masterpiece that shows the skills they have learnt. They present this to the Wardens of the Goldsmiths’ Company on completion of their apprenticeship and are awarded their Freedom as members of the Company.

There have been more than 31,400 Goldsmiths’ Company Apprentices since the Company received its first Royal Charter in 1327.
