The Goldsmiths’ Review 2023/24

Filled with insightful stories about inspiring people connected to the Goldsmiths’ Company, through time, trade, craft, philanthropy and education, The Goldsmiths' Review details our journey over the past year and indicates our direction for the year ahead.

This year’s edition conveys the vibrancy and breadth of our work, from the story of Maddy Rowe, Apprentice of the Year, to the Company’s historic commissioning of His Majesty King Charles III’s Coronation Cup. Beyond London, the Review carries stories from around the globe, including V&A East Director Gus Casely-Hayford’s essay on Asante gold, an insight into Korean metalworking, and a profile of Melanie Eddy who is soon to be celebrated in Bermuda National Gallery’s first jewellery exhibition.

As a champion for our craft and trade, as a cultural institution, and as a philanthropic body there is no question that the Goldsmiths’ Company is a force for good and for ongoing positive change. In recognition of this, for the first time, the Review includes a report illustrating the impact that we have made in the last 12 months, through support for our craft and trade, by assaying and hallmarking precious metals, training apprentices and craftspeople, and transforming the life chances of the most vulnerable through philanthropic giving.

The Review is a snapshot of all that we do in a year. We hope that you find it enjoyable, educational, and that it encourages you to acquire, renew, or expand your interest in the Company as we head towards our 700th anniversary in 2027.
